Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas appealed Friday for an international force for Gaza so the divided Palestinians can hold new elections, and insisted he was determined to isolate Hamas. Abbas, in Paris for his first talks with Nicolas Sarkozy since he was elected French president last month, won France's "full support" for the Palestinian Authority - and $20 million in aid.(23,27)

New Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad delivered a stern warning Thursday to some 800 Muslim clergy, including Hamas supporters: He won't tolerate calls for violence delivered from mosque pulpits and plans to collect militants' weapons.
