Cabinet approves free education plan
After intensive debates and political haggling, the Cabinet on Sunday approved lateral budget cuts in order to implement the free education law, which will include all children from the age of three. The law was passed with 21 votes in favor and 8 votes against, after Shas was granted its demands. Members of Yisrael Beiteinu and Independence factions opposed the bill. Journalist Yair Lapid is leaving Channel 2 News in order to enter politics, Yedioth Ahronoth learned Sunday. The move is expected to shock the Israeli political scene. Panetta: U.S. will not allow Iran to develop nuclear bomb, block Strait of Hormuz
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Sunday that the U.S. would act if Iran were to develop a nuclear weapon or close the Strait of Hormuz. Palestinian nabbed with 11 explosive devices
A Palestinian was arrested by Military Police and Border Guard officers Sunday morning at the entrance to a checkpoint in the Jenin area in possession of an improvised gun, a commando knife and 11 explosive devices of different sizes. Three other men suspected of aiding him were also detained. According to suspicions, the four were on their way to carry out a terror attack. The checkpoint has been closed.
