Russia, China veto UN Security Council resolution on Syria

Russia and China vetoed on Saturday a Western-Arab UN Security Council resolution backing an Arab League call for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step aside. The resolution, discussed in a special Security Council meeting, had the backing of most Arab and European countries. The unusual weekend session comes as Syrian forces pummeled the city of Homs with mortars and artillery in what activists called one of the bloodiest episodes of the uprising, with at least... Analysis/Post: An Iranian outing

The Herzliya Conference almost always provides news headlines, but this year it was Israel’s official Iranian outing. Just a month ago, it would have been impossible to get IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz or head of Military Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi to speak about Iran in closed-door meetings. This week, they spoke openly and publicly about Iran’s nuclear program, what its status is, what its intentions are and the need for a viable and... [Lire la suite]
