Rocket fire on south resumes; 9 killed in Gaza

Following a calm night in south Israel, three rockets landed in the Eshkol and Sha'ar Hanegev regional councils early Monday. There were no reports of injury or damage. The IDF continued to strike Gaza terror hubs overnight. At approximately 6:30 am Monday air raid sirens were sounded in the Hof Ashkelon, Sha'ar Hanegev and Eshkol regional councils. The IDF has bombed some 80 Gaza targets overnight, including rocket launching sites, tunnels and training camps. Buildings that served as command centers and weapon storage facilities were attacked as well. Several terror cells were hit while firing rockets on Israel. Since the beginning of Operation Pillar of Defense, the army has struck some 1,350 terror targets across the Strip. Palestinian medical officials said at least nine people were killed in IDF strikes throughout Gaza overnight. The Ma'an news agency said at least three people, including two children - aged three and four - were killed during an aerial attack on the Zeitoun neighborhood east of Gaza City. It was further reported that at around 5 am Israeli aircraft leveled a police headquarters in Gaza City. Around 11 pm Sunday, after nearly three hours of calm, air raid sirens sounded in Ashdod, Gan Yavne, Kiryat Malachi, Beer Tuvia, Gedera and other southern towns. A Grad rocket hit a house in the Beer Tuvia Regional Council. Great damage was caused to the house but there were no injuries as the family was in a fortified space. Two rockets fired at Ashdod were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system; two others landed in open areas near Gan Yavne and Kiryat Malachi. One interception attempt failed. Later, three rockets were fired at the Eshkol Regional Council. No injuries or damage were reported.
