Chabad House

Mumbai hospital doctors were horrified by the condition of the six Israeli bodies recovered from the smashed, blood-spattered rooms of Chabad Center. Local and Israeli pathologists confirmed they were tortured by their Islamist terrorist captors before being bound together and killed in cold blood. Israelis were the largest group of foreigners murdered by the Islamist terrorists. The single captured gunman confirmed they had been specifically targeted. The six bodies were flown home by an Israeli Air Force... [Lire la suite]

President Peres on Hebron violence: Settlers who attack IDF soldiers are attacking all of Israel

President Shimon Peres on Wednesday branded recent acts of violence by rightists against Israel Defense Forces soldiers in Hebron as attacks on the country as a whole. "Whoever throws a stone at a soldier, it is as if he has thrown a stone at the State of Israel," said Peres. He made the comments in an address at a memorial ceremony for Paula Ben-Gurion, the wife of Israel's first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. An IDF source also blasted the violent conduct of settler youth, saying rabbis... [Lire la suite]

Gaza/Israel

Palestinian militants fired three Qassam rockets into the western Negev on Wednesday, further unraveling an Israel-Hamas truce in the Gaza Strip. The rockets struck open areas near a Kibbutz in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council. Gaza militants earlier in the day fired a volley of mortar shells into Israel, one of which damaged a power cable transferring electricity to the energy-strapped Gaza Strip, according to Army Radio. The militants launched a total of eight shells at the Eshkol regional council in the... [Lire la suite]

Rabbi, priest and imam pray together for rain on Kinneret

Rabbi Shlomo Didi knows Lake Kinneret well. As rabbi of the Jordan Valley and a resident of Tiberias, Didi has not only married couples beside the Kinneret, he has also offered prayers for rain along its shoreline, which has receded markedly. On Monday Didi was again praying for rain - but this time, he was not alone. He was joined by Ian Clark, the priest of the Scottish church, and Muhammad Dahamshe, the Imam of Kafr Kana. "A joint prayer does not consider differences of religion,"... [Lire la suite]

Iran's Ahmadinejad acknowledges economy in danger

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has acknowledged publicly for the first time that tumbling oil prices are gouging the country's fragile economy. The official IRNA news agency has quoted the increasingly unpopular president as saying Iran will be forced to trim spending and generous subsidies and raise taxes. It's a sensitive admission for the Iranian president, who is seeking re-election in June. Oil prices have plunged from $147 a barrel in July to under $50, adding to the pain of Iran's rising... Al-Qaida-style extremism gains real power within Hamas

Al-Qaida-type Salafi Islam is rising in popularity within the ranks of Hamas. This trend is particularly noticeable in the movement's armed wing, the Izzadin Kassam Brigades. Observation of this process shows that attempts to draw a clear dividing line between the "nationalist" Muslim Brotherhood-inspired Islamism of Hamas and the Salafi trend can no longer be sustained. The growth of Salafism within Hamas is part of a larger pattern of increasingly extreme Islamic piety... [Lire la suite]

ZAKA: 'It appears not all Chabad hostages killed by terrorists'

The Indian commando raid launched to save the lives of Jewish and Israeli hostages at Mumbai's Chabad House may have inadvertently ended the lives of one or more of the hostages, the head of a six-man ZAKA team in the terror-stricken Indian city told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday. Speaking by phone from Mumbai, Haim Weingarten, the head of the Mumbai ZAKA team, said, "Based on what I saw, [although] I can't identify the type of bullets in the bodies [of the victims], I don't think the terrorists killed all the... Cabinet approves release of 250 Palestinian prisoners

The cabinet on Sunday approved the release of 250 Palestinian prisoners as a goodwill gesture toward Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The prisoners will be released to the West Bank, where Abbas's government holds sway, before next week's Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, officials said of the decision. Outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had promised to free the prisoners during a meeting earlier this month with Abbas, who launched peace talks with Israel a year ago after Gaza's violent takeover by... Chabad House in Mumbai

Nine people - most Israelis, some dual citizens but all of them Jews - were killed in an attack on the Chabad House in Mumbai, one of ten targets hit by terrorists in a series of coordinated attacks across the city that left at least 195 people dead, and hundreds wounded. After checking hospitals and morgues in Mumbai, Foreign Ministry officials said on Sunday that there do not appear to be any more Israeli or Jewish victims of the attacks apart from those that have already been identified as victims from the...
