The IDF is prepared for a ground op in Gaza

"We are prepared for the possibility of an operation, if it becomes necessary," Chief of General Staff Lt.- Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi said. "(But), until then it is incumbent upon us to exhaust all of the other methods and act day and night in order to provide security." Israeli Arab leaders

The establishment of a Palestinian state will not provide a solution for the national aspirations of Israel's Arab citizens, Arab public figures said on Tuesday. The document demanded Israeli Arabs receive cultural, religious and educational autonomy, and the right to veto government decisions on national issues that affect them.Dr. Amal Jamal, head of... Bush/Iran

US President George W. Bush said Tuesday that the international community should continue to pressure Iran on its nuclear programs, saying a new U.S. intelligence report finding that Tehran halted its development of a nuclear bomb provides an opportunity. "I view this report as a warning signal that they had the program, they halted the program," Bush said. "The reason why it's a warning signal is they could restart it." Israel/Iran

"It seems Iran in 2003 halted for a certain period of time its military nuclear program but as far as we know it has probably since revived it," Barak told Army Radio. Government sources in Jerusalem told Haaretz Monday night that the Bush administration appears to have lost its sense of urgency regarding Iran's nuclear program, making a military strike in 2008 increasingly unlikely. The change in policy comes on the heels of the release Monday of the National Intelligence Estimate in Washington.... [Lire la suite]

Any agreement with all road map commitments.

PM Ehud Olmert on Sunday played down expectations for a peace deal with the Palestinians before the end of 2008 as laid out at a U.S.-sponsored peace conference last week. "We will make an effort to hold speedy negotiations in the hope we may conclude by the end of 2008, but certainly there is no commitment for a firm timetable for their completion," Olmert said at the start of Sunday's cabinet meeting. U.S. President George W. Bush assured Israeli and Palestinian leaders at the conference in... [Lire la suite]

UN/Israel

In a sudden about face, the United States on Friday withdrew a United Nations resolution endorsing this week's agreement by Israeli and Palestinian leaders to try to reach a Mideast peace settlement by the end of 2008, apparently after Israel objected. Israel expressed opposition to the American initiative to pursue Security Council support for the proposed resolution because it does not consider most of the member states of the council to be friendly toward Israel. U.S. deputy ambassador Alejandro Wolff... [Lire la suite]
