Israel criticizes Russia's reported plans to sell anti-tank missiles to Syria
Israel has harshly criticized Russia's reported plans to supply Syria with advanced anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles. Former IDF intelligence chief Aharon Zeevi Farkash said the advanced missiles, which have greater accuracy and penetrating power, could alter the military balance between Israel and Syria. Vice Premier Shimon Peres said the delivery of weapons to Syria could encourage it to turn towards the path of war. Likud MK Silvan Shalom said Israel should officially protest the sale. Shalom warned that the weapons could fall into the hands of Hizbollah, media reported.(11,31)
