Israeli-PA talks

      The heads of the Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams, Foreign Minister Tsippi Livni and Ahmed Qorei (Abu Alla) met Monday. The teams are due to meet Wednesday to resume negotiations on a peace agreement. Abu Alla warned that the Palestinians might boycott the planned start of talks if Israel goes ahead with plans to build new homes in eastern Jerusalem's Har Homa neighborhood. Senior Palestinian officials claimed Abu Alla said some leaders have proposed a boycott over the development of the site. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has promised to forge a historic path toward a final settlement with the Palestinians. Speaking at a business conference in Tel Aviv, Olmert acknowledged that the new dialogue is full of risks. He said the Palestinian Authoirty government is weak, and that Palestinian security forces are not yet capable of ensuring law and order in the West Bank. The prime minister said he intends to take advantage of the opportunity to wage serious, ongoing and uninterrupted negotitaions in order to forge a new diplomatic reality. Olmert said that the idea of one state for all residents with equal rights to vote threatens the existence of the state of Israel. (22,39)
