UN envoy: Hamas uses Gazans as human shields
The United Nations General Assembly will consider this week requesting an advisory opinion from the international court of justice over Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, The Guardian newspaper reported Wednesday. Richard Falk, the UN's special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, said there was a well-grounded view that Israel's actions were serious violations of the UN charter, the Geneva conventions, international law and international humanitarian law. Israel's UN Ambassador Gabriela Shalev filed a complained with the UN's chief and the Security Council over the cynical use of Palestinian civilians by Hamas. During Israel's Gaza operation, Hamas has operated out of civilian areas while using civilians as human shields, she said. (08,19)
