China backs road map peace plan, says visiting foreign minister
Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Thursday that his country supports the international road map peace plan and the principle of land for peace. Speaking at talks with President Shimon Peres, he called for a resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, and the opening of talks with Syria and Lebnaon. Foreign Minister Yang is due to meet Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. He is scheduled to visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem on Thursday evening, and hold talks with opposition leader Tzipi Livni (Kadima). The Friends of Tibet association in Israel is protesting the visit. (18,11)
