Report: 'Mashaal, Suleiman set to meet again'
Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal and Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman met in Cairo late Saturday night, and discussed Palestinian reconciliation efforts, an Egyptian official said Sunday. The official said that the matter of captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit was also discussed, though he did not provide details. Israel Radio quoted Egyptian sources as saying that the two were set to meet again on Sunday on both matters. The sources were also quoted as saying that Egyptian mediators had been pressuring Hamas and Fatah to come to an agreement on the disagreements between them at the end of Ramadan, in two weeks time. On the matter of Schalit, the sources said that finalizing a prisoner exchange deal would advance reconciliation efforts, and allow for the opening of the crossings into the Gaza Strip. On Saturday night, meanwhile, a Hamas spokesman said that the Islamist group believes a prisoner exchange deal, including Schalit's release, will be finalized by the end of November. (15,12)
