FM tells visiting EU reps: Gaza-bound Iranian, Lebanese flotilla are not aid ships

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman says that the Gaza-bound ships from Iran and Lebanon represent hostile activity, and are not solely acts of provocation like other aid flotillas. A Kol Yisrael reporter says Lieberman made the remarks in talks with the European Union foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, and German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. According to Leiberman, Israel expects the international community to support its position regarding the flotillas. A Kol Yisrael reporter says the German foreign minister also called on Israel to permit its inclusion in a water purification and sewage infrastructure development project in Gaza. Also, Israel's ambassador to Washington, Michael Oren, says Israel and the United States have reached new understandings on dealing with the threat from the Gaza Strip that do not relate to lifting the naval blockade of the coastal territory. Oren met Tuesday night with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The meeting, which addressed issues related to the peace process, was described as "friendly and productive." Oren told Reshet Bet radio that Clinton expressed interest in meeting with her Israeli counterpart, Avigdor Lieberman, on his next visit to Washington. (21,49)
