Israelis, Turks meet twice this week in UN to discuss flotilla raid
The Turkish daily Hurriyet reports that Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioğlu and Yosef Ciechanover, the Israeli representative to the UN committee probing Israel's late May raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla, met on Monday for the second time in two days in a bid to revive bilateral ties, A Turkish diplomatic source told the newspaper, "If someone extends us a friendly hand for a solution to problems, we do not leave that hand in the air." Referring to the assistance Turkey provided during the Carmel forest fire , another Turkish diplomat told Hurriyet, "It is certain that the 'fire diplomacy' has encouraged the diplomatic contact. These kinds of situations sometimes help break the ice." (23,00)
