Meeting of the Arab League takes place in Cairo

        Arab League foreign ministers began a meeting in Cairo Wednesday night attended by Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas , to discuss the next step after peace negotiations foundered. The meetig of the Arab League follow-up committee for the arab peace initiative began after US envoy George Mitchell met Egyptian president Hosi Mubarak and Arab League Chief Amr Mussa earlier in the day. Mitchell told reporters that he will pursue "substantive" talks with Israelis and Palestinians, in order to try and rescue the Middle East negotiations. He was speaking after his meeting with Mubarak and told them his country remains committed to the two-state solution and Mideast peace. " A framework agreement addressing all final status issues would pave the way towards a final peace agreement, and this remains our goal," he added. (00,02)
