US expresses concern over planned flotilla to Gaza

            The US has voiced concern over plans for pro-Palestinian activists to embark on an aid flotilla to the Gaza Strip later this month, in defiance of an Israeli naval blockade. The flotilla is due to mark the anniversary of an Israeli commando raid that killed nine Turkish activists aboard the Mavi Marmara. A State Department spokeswoman said the US is concerned that a number of groups are organizing the anniversary flotilla from various European ports to Gaza. Groups that seek to break Israel's maritime blockade of Gaza are taking irresponsible and provocative actions that risk the safety of their passengers, she said.  (21,14)
