FM Lieberman in Moscow warns against supplying Syria with arms
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, on a visit to Russia, has warned that supplying Syria with state-of-the-art weapons can have very negative consequences given the current turmoil in the country. His comments came in the wake of a French news agency report that Russia has delivered supersonic cruise missiles to Syria, though it was not clear exactly when the shipment was made. The foreign minister also said in a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin that Russia's support of unilateral steps by the Palestinians at the UN does not help promote an agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The Russian news agency Itar-Tass also quoted Lieberman as saying he shares the view of Israeli observers who participated in overseeing the recent election in Russia that they were fair and democratic. The foreign minister was in Russia as part of an annual economic cooperation summit between the two countries. (11,32)
