Local councils strike in solidarity with social protest movement
Most municipal authorities have declared a one-day strike today, in sympathy with protests spreading throughout Israel.
Municipalities will not be giving services to government offices or holding public office hours today, streets will not be cleaned and garbage will not be collected.
PM Netanyahu called an informal meeting of the committee on economic concentration yesterday to discuss solutions to the protesters demands, but no decisions were made.
Netanyahu urged its members to make recommendations by the end of the month, He also decided to establish a team of ministers and economists to speak with the protesters. The panel will hear the views of various groups and then make recommendations.
Histadrut Chairman Ofer Eini met Sunday with the social activists leading the housing protest to discuss continued joint operations.
According to one activist the meeting ended with no disagreements between both sides, adding "it was a good preparation meeting. We'll see how to continue this partnership." (09,00)
